As with any design project, building a beautiful and functional guest room takes just a little bit of planning. Your guest room can certainly JUST be a spare bedroom in your home with cast-off furniture, but what if we thought just a little bigger, a little more stylish and a little more luxurious. Guest rooms are a great place to have a little fun and go all out!
This is an especially timely article for me, as my space for this year’s Pasadena Showcase House is the Guest Suite. I thought it might be fun to help you create something similar in your own home!
What makes the selection of items special are the unique touches. In our showcase guest suite, we featured a saturated paint color, wallpapers from Thibaut Fabrics and a few select custom bedding pieces.

Every Bedroom Needs a Bed
The Pasadena Showcase House Guest room features a tall upholstered bed in a gorgeous chenille fabric from Thibaut Fabrics.
For our makeover bed, we picked this beautiful upholstered bed with exposed wood “wings” in a lovely solid chenille. Find yours here.
Bedside Lights
Our Showcase bedroom had limited space for bedside table so we added statement pendants dropped from the ceiling for drama.

Console Table/Work Table
Guests will definitely want a space to set up a computer, write a letter or get ready for their day. In the Showcase, we found a fabulous Chinoiserie styled extra-long console table that we painted in a soft finish to make the room.

Area Rug
A beautiful area rug is soft underfoot for your guests. And even if you have carpeting in your guest space, the area rug will add a little extra lux and bring some added style to the space.
While our Showcase room made a statement with a watercolored stripe on most of the walls, this area rug will spread a great pattern out on the floor…AND no installation! Get yours here.
Pull Up a Chair
In any guest space, you need a spot to sit, whether to put your shoes on or to pull up to the console table. We LOVE the versatility of ottomans. We selected ours in a great shearling fabric which continues to be both a trend AND a timeless neutral.

Finally, what is a guest space without luxurious bedding? The bedding for the Showcase house was a combination of linen bedding, luxury premade bed linens, and some custom touches. The custom component is where you can go a little crazy and take some chances. For bedding that gets regular use, you’ll want the best quality you can afford that is also easily washable so it’s fresh for each guest.
