I think it's nice to know what you're getting when you hire an Interior Designer.  My client relationships start with the initial consultation.

An initial consultation consists of the following:

an in-depth phone conversation to determine your needs

an in-home visit where I'll come prepared with actual samples

if the need determined is a paint consult, I'll bring 'the color box'

a room goals sheet for the area of discussion

a follow up after our appointment to confirm the goals assuming we'll be working together

I'm quite generous with my time.  A normal first appointment is scheduled to run about two and half hours.  I don't want clients to feel rushed, however, and if we're running long...don't worry about looking at your watch!  I'm not going to hand you a bill for the extra time.
